以偏概全的問題

——“ 公司 ” 并非 “ 不是 company ，就是 corporation”

　《企業名稱的翻譯問題》一文認為： “‘ 公司 ' 的英語名稱不是 company （簡縮詞為 Co. 〕，就是 corporation （簡縮同為 Corp 。）。 ” 該文作者或許是為強調 company 與 corporation 乃 “ 公司 ” 的兩個首選對應詞才這么說的，但這樣做畢竟有以偏概全和誤導讀者之賺。大家知道，在表示 “ 公司 ”“ 及 “ 企業 ” 〕之義時，英文中除了使用 company 和 corporation ，也不時使用 “ 公司 '' 廣義上的對應詞，諸如 firm ， house ， business ， concern ， combine ， Partnership ， con1plex ， group ， consortium ， establishment ， venture ， conglomerate ， multinational ， transnational 等。就是在專有公司名稱中， “ 公司 ” 也決非只有 company 與 corporation 之說， lines ， agency 等也是名正言順的 “ 公司 ” ，有時甚至是前老所不能替代的 “ 公司 ” 。

1 ． line （ s ）：（輪船、航空、航運等）公司。例如：

Atlantic Container Line 大西洋集裝箱海運公司。

Hawaiian Air Lines ，夏威夷航空公司

2 ． agency ：公司，代理行。例如 :

The Austin Advertising Agency 奧斯汀廣告公司

China Ocean Shipping Agency 中國外輪代理公司

3 ． store （ s) 百貨公司。例如：

Great Universal Store 大世界百貨公司（英）

Tesco Stores （ Holdings ）坦斯科百貨公司（英〕

4 ． associates 了（聯合）公司。例如：

British Nuclear Associates 英國核子聯合公司

Subsea Equipment Associates Ltd. 海底設備聯合有限公司（英、法、美合辦）

5 ． system（廣播、航空等）公司。例如：

Mutual Broadcasting System 相互廣播公司（莫）

Malaysian Airline Svqtpm Rhd. 馬來西亞航空公司

6 ． office ：公司，多與 head ， home branch 等同連用。例如。

3M China Limited Guangzhou Branch Office

3M 中國有限公司廣州分公司

China Books Import and Export Corporation （ Head Office ）

中國圖書進出口總公司

7 ． service （ s) ：（服務 ）公司。例如：

Africa － New Zealand Service

非洲 -- 新西蘭眼務公司

Tropic Air Services

特羅皮克航空公司

此外， exchange ， center 等詞在特定的上下文中也可轉義表示 “ 公司 ” 。例如：

American Manufacturers Foreign Credit

Insurance Exchange

美國制造商出口信用保險公司

Binks （ Shanghai ） engineering Exhibition Center, Ltd.

賓克斯（上海）涂裝工程設備展示有限公司

　值得一提的是，不僅 “ 公司 ” 的表達法多種多樣，就是一些特定的公司往往也不止一種說法，例如， “ 聯合公司 ” 除了 associates 之說，另外還有以下各靈活表達法。

1． United Aircraft Corporation 聯合飛機公司（美）

2 ． Allied Food Industry Co. 聯合食品工業公司（新加坡）

3 ． Integrated oil Company 聯合石油公司

4. Federated Department Stores 聯合百貨公司

5 ． Union Carbide Coronation 聯合碳比合物公司（美）

6 ． Associated British Plectra Corporation 英國聯合影業公司

7 ． China Agricultural Machinery Import

8 ． Consolidated coal Company 聯合煤炭公司（美）

9 ．  Export Joint Company 中國農業機械進出口聯合公司
